An important member of a family of Chinese imperial cartographers. According to the text on the ‘Blue Map of the World’ (c1810), the original map upon which it was based was created by Huang, whose family had served as cartographers to the emperor for at least three generations. In 1759, Manchuria, Mongolia, Tibet and Chinese Turkestan were brought under Qing rule. Huang compiled official statistics into this wonderful wood-block map entitled ‘A Map of All under Heaven of the Everlasting Unified Qing Empire’.
