Copperplate
Back to people overviewAn intaglio printing technique. The image is engraved or etched into a plate of copper using a sharp tool. Ink is deposited into these grooves. The plate is placed on top of a sheet of paper or vellum and is them pushed through a heavy press. The reverse of the copperplate is the resulting image, so all inscriptions must be mirrored when they are carved into the plate for them to read correctly in the final print.
