Broadside

Back to people overview

A print on one side of a single sheet of paper. The verso (other side) is left blank. Broadsides were often pasted on walls as posters or advertisements. When printed on both sides, a broadside becomes a broadsheet.

This example of a broadside shows the large Western Hemisphere map by Tramezzino. The map in finely engraved on copper plates and printed in black and white. The engraving is very fine and shows the Western hemisphere of the earth with sea monsters and ships in the ocean. The area surrounding the map is left empty.
