Fathi Hassan: Shifting Sands

31 May - 15 June, Frieze No. 9 Cork Street, London

The Sunderland Collection Art Programme and curator Beth Greenacre are proud to present Fathi Hassan: Shifting Sands.

The exhibition presents new and historical works created by Fathi Hassan in response to The Sunderland Collection. Of Nubian heritage, Fathi (67) was born in Cairo and spent over 30 years in Italy. He now resides in Edinburgh.

The exhibition at Frieze No. 9 Cork Street in London showcased large collage works using different papers and fabrics, text, and found objects such as train tickets and gauze.

Alongside them, the artist presented exquisite, intimate pieces where paper, ink, and pencil are layered into complex, beautiful contemplations of Fathi's personal history as well as universal concepts relating to place, identity, and migration.
